Winter Weather Preparedness Alert | City of Easley
The winter weather event expected for the Easley area in the Upstate of South Carolina is forecast to bring dangerous ice, sleet, and mixed precipitation this weekend, with freezing temperatures likely to persist for several days afterward. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Upstate, including our region, with the potential for ice accumulations that could severely impact travel and infrastructure.
We understand this event could last several days and may significantly impact our citizens’ daily lives and safety. The City is working closely with local non-profits, Pickens County, and neighboring municipalities to coordinate resources and support throughout the storm and its aftermath.
Public Safety & Emergency Response
Our Police and Fire Departments are preparing to maintain emergency response capabilities throughout this storm by: • Increasing staffing levels • Equipping vehicles for winter driving conditions • Confirming backup plans for communication and operations
Please remember: 911 is for life-threatening emergencies only. For non-emergency assistance, please call 864-859-4025.
Public Works, Parks & Recreation Maintenance, and City Operations
City crews are preparing for winter operations, including pre-positioning equipment and materials to support potential impacts. These teams will prioritize critical roadways and infrastructure first. Due to the nature of ice and sleet, road conditions may become treacherous or impassable, and treatment efforts may be limited by freezing temperatures.
Warming Station Available
The Larry Bagwell Gym will serve as a warming station during normal operating hours (6:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday), provided the facility has power.

What Residents Should Do Now
- Avoid unnecessary travel
- Charge phones and backup power sources
- Prepare food, water, medications, flashlights, and blankets
- Drip faucets and protect exposed pipes
- Safely heat your home
- Check on neighbors, especially seniors and those with limited mobility
Ice accumulation on trees and power lines may cause widespread, prolonged power outages, with impacts potentially lasting beyond the weekend.
